I Am The Messenger Blog #1 Josselyn Santos

At the beginning, I think Ed sees his friends like his only family. Kind of like the only people you can go to whenever you need something but that doesn’t last very long. After he received the first card, he couldn’t resist the situation inside of him so he shared it with his friends. They gave him weird responses and kind of sounded like sarcastic responses. All of them didn’t pay much attention to it but one of them, Audrey.  He then had a different perspective from his friends and started to move on with his life. Audrey is the only one that really cared about the situation and Ed. She really showed interest in finding out what was this whole deal about. I can definitely relate to this. I’ve had people in the past that I’ve considerate them as real friends. Just a few of those people have really stayed in my life and help me out whenever I’ve needed them. The rest, were just there pretending to be someone they weren’t.

In my opinion, Ed’s family doesn’t differ a lot from his friends. His family and friends pretend to be there but they are not really there. Ed thought of his friends as his only family due to the fact that his sister’s moved out and so did his brother with there own life and his mom is always judging him. His friends were the only ones he could really feel comfortable with but they aren’t what he thought they were. I think this will evolve eventually. As the time passes by, Ed is going to keep receiving more and more cards and doing different things and the more his friends are going to think he’s crazy. Let’s not even mention his family that judge him for almost everything and imagine now that he has become a vigilante.

I believe that the Doorman is very important in the story. He’s very significant and is one of Ed’s most important people. I see the Doorman very symbolic. Him standing by the door all the time represents someone that is always going to be there no matter what. He will always be Ed’s friend and no matter what he does out there and what he thinks, that Doorman will always be there like a real friend that doesn’t judge you. That’s why I think the Doorman is very important.

  1. Josselyn santos I agree with you in the first part of the question but I must have a debate with you on the second question. Ed’s family, true they never there for him or might be but his friends I think they are there for him like Audrey. I think that if he were a little more open they would be there for him. I think doorman deserves all the credit because he gets judge all the time about how bad how bad he stinks but his always there. Love that dog.
