I am the messenger blog #1 (D'Angelo Hicks)
Ed learns that none of his friends really care about his problem except for Audry, they are all nonchalant about a topic that seems very important to him. I do not see the same connection in my friends because we all want the same thing so therefor if one of us has something to say we will listen. Ed's family is among the nicest people around except for when it comes to Ed himself; they treat him like a nobody. Although they treat him like a nobody his mom still comes around to see him and have him do things for her, Ed says that it is because he is the only child that lives in town. I think that their relationship will evolve. I think that Ed will come to his mom with his problems that he is having and she will step up and console with Ed. The doorman I feel is important to the story or the author wouldn't have tried so hard to portray as much imagery as he did for him; I think that later in the story the dog/doorman will play a crucial role for helping or saving Ed.

I think it's interesting that you feel the dog could possible play a role in helping or saving Ed later on. The author portrays the dog as having a crucial role, but very helpless or sort of just there. I didn't quite think of that being a possibility but ultimately, I agree. I think the author has put so much into The Doorman's character that it is for a reason and we might see his some plot development including The Doorman later on.
