I am the Messenger: Blog #1 Maria Montes
When Ed first gets his first card he was obviously freaked out and didn't know what to do. He didn't know who he should tell or ask advice from. We know from what we read in the book that he will not go to any of his family members especially his mom. You would think just like any other mother that she would have at least some respect for her child no matter what. The way she treats Ed is like if he is nothing and worthless because he wasn't as successful as his other siblings. She don't even call him by his name, so of course he wouldn't feel comfortable sharing this information with any of his family members. When he approaches his friends with the card he doesn't really expect them to give them that much advice or information but Audrey knew exactly what it meant. He can basically see right through Richie and Marv and knew they weren't capable of think and doing this to him. He can really go to Marv and Richie because they seem to not take things seriously. They can't give a good feedback like Audrey and the Doorman. The doorman is somebody very special to Ed. The doorman is a dog that was once his alcoholic dads. Thats what makes him even more special but also the way he communicates with him like if he is a human. He gives the dog coffee exactly the way Ed has it if not he won't drink it. This dog actually understands Ed and what he is going through and they actually have "conversations" with each other. The doorman is like his best friend and is one of the most important characters in this book because he also help Ed and making his decisions.

I agree with you Maria, Ed's mom just seems very unsupportive and like she just doesn't care about him and his friends aren't really helpful. To me the Doorman seems like it's his father figure in a strange way.
